Thousand Foot Krutch – Joel Bruyere – July 18, 2016

TFK--304

Thousand Foot Krutch is out on tour right now and this week they will be at St. Andrews Hall, Detroit, Michigan!  I for one can’t wait to catch them there!  So what are you waiting for ?   Go get some tickets and then come back and read my interview with Joel Bruyere!  -graci

Thanks so much for taking the time to do this interview! I know with you guys on the road things are probably a bit crazy and I really appreciate it!  I’m super excited to see you guys on July 21, 2016, at St. Andrews Hall, Detroit! I’m sure this isn’t the first time you guys have been in Detroit, so do you remember the first time that you were here and where you guys played ?

First time in Detroit proper was St. Andrews actually! So this is kind of like homecoming.

Did anything interesting happen? Because from what I can tell, seriously interesting things happen in the D!

We all went for wings after the show and as we walked into the restaurant, music was blasting out of a jukebox at the back and for some reason it cut out. And then silence and we were just standing there in the doorway while the diners were just staring at us. Hilarious moment.

Do you have a must visit food place when you come to Detroit?

Slow’s obviously!

What is one of your favorite things about playing in Detroit ?

It’s close to home for me being from Windsor so I love being back.

The releases I have heard from “Exhale” are just amazing! I really like that they aren’t cookie cutter music and even though they are quite different, they still reflect your guys’ style. Can you touch upon how that came to be, was it a conscious decision, or did it just flow naturally while you were recording?

Trev definitely brought a stack of incredible songs to us this time around. There was definitely a conscious effort for us to create an album that had serious power live as well as in the recorded version. It sticks to what we know and love and touches on new ground as well.

Can you talk a bit about your guys writing process? Does it happen mostly in the studio, or are you guys constantly writing while on the road and on break?

We use modern file sharing tech extensively seeing as well all live pretty far from each other. Only in 2016 can you record an album this way and not have it take an eternity.

What would you say is the song that means the most to you personally on “Exhale,” and why?

That’s kind of like asking which of you children you love the most…….

Continuing on that, what song off of “Exhale” is your favorite to play live, and why?

Dynamite has been a blast.

You guys have been doing pretty amazing things since 1997, do you happen to remember your first pinch me moment, and would you please share ?

Playing at the Festival of Lights in Peterborough (hometown bandshell) or to a sold out Rexall Place in Edmonton, both of those were pretty surreal moments.

While on this tour, what were the last 3 songs played on your play list ? And on that play list, what would your fans be most surprised to find that you listen to ?

NEEDTOBREATHE – Hard Love
Kaleo – Way Down We Go
Foy Vance – She Burns

What was the last concert you went to that you weren’t performing at ?

Shinedown @ Bridgestone in Nashville

Who would you say is your favorite artist and your favorite song by them ?

Incubus – Dig

Do you remember your first music purchase, and can you share that experience if so?

Def Leppard – Hysteria on cassette tape (I’m old!)

Is there something about you that your fans would be totally surprised to learn about you ?

I’m a birder. Like. Obsessed.

It looks like 2016 is turning out to be an amazing year for you guys! What can we expect to see from you guys for the rest of 2016 ?

Lots of shows and much more music.

Any message for your fans ?

We love you! So thankful for being on this journey together.
