I got my first tattoo when I was 18 years old, living in Chicago. And I got it at a tattoo shop that doesn’t exist anymore. It was right down the street from Chicago Music Exchange. I was with my former band, Black Tide.

The reason why I chose the artwork was because it was a piece that I always wanted. My mother drew it and has the same tattoo on her back. It was really just a bond that I felt was important to have with her. I knew that’s what I wanted when I was a really small child, and I had to make sure it was my very first tattoo.
